Saturday, January 21 | MAX FM...SPONSORS MITTLEHOLTZ MEMORIAL SKI DAY CBC journalist in New Brunswick for over twenty years, Gary Mittelholtz was a man who demonstrated great leadership qualities and pride towards his community. Gary was born in Toronto on May 28th 1954 and later attended Ryerson University where he obtained a Radio and Television degree. His CBC journalism career brought him to Saint John New Brunswick in March 1986. A year later, in 1987, Mittelholtz received the Atlantic Journalism Awards gold prize for enterprising radio reports. Broadcasting was simply one of Gary's passions in life. Known to have always been a bright and cheerful man, some of Gary's favourite past times included outdoor activities such as skiing, hiking and kayaking with his friends and family. Mittelholtz was a member of the YMCA, the St Matthew's Church in Grand Bay, the Knights of Columbus and the Relay for Life in Grand Bay. One of Mittelholtz most important projects was the Blueberry Hill Nature Trust Fund Project where former WorkSafe NB property is to be maintained as green space for outdoor pleasure by the Nature Trust of New Brunswick. Mittelholtz had held the position of Chairman for this project. In March 2010, at the age of fifty five, Mittelholtz was cross country skiing in Goshen New Brunswick area, when he suffered from a heart attack and passed away. Deeply missed, Poley Mountain is dedicating one day a season in memory of Gary Mittelholtz for his numerous contributions and love towards his community. On Saturday January 21st 2012, Poley Mountain will be donating twenty five cents from each lift ticket sale, towards Mittelholtz's Blueberry Hill Nature Trust Fund in Grand Bay. A professional filmer will be in the terrain park all day shooting contest riders and moving from one park feature to another (hence “follow the filmer”) Riders will accumulate as much footage as possible during designated contest hours. The footage will then be sorted and edited into individual edits or “parts” for each contest rider.
